For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; - Romans 3:23
We have all been there. We have all sinned. What did we learn from those mistakes?
I’m sure most have heard insanity described as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Well, a life of sin can feel like insanity. If we feel that cycle in our life, maybe it’s time to try for a different result. A key part in anyone’s life for growing and developing is learning from our mistakes. We can apply that to our spiritual lives as well. Here are a few steps we can take to learn from of mistakes:
Acknowledge our mistakes: Before we can learn anything, we have to admit that we’ve made a mistake. Also, by admitting what we’ve done we’ll obtain mercy.
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. - Proverbs 28:13
Analyze our mistake: Consider what caused the mistake and how we resolved it.
Identify lessons: Find lessons in our mistake.
Make a plan: Determine how we can avoid making the same mistake again.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. - Ephesians 6:11
Put our lessons into practice: This is crucial. We have to fight daily and it can be difficult, but with the Lord’s help, we can do it.
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. - Luke 9:23
Teach others: This is another crucial key. We have a great opportunity to learn from the men and women of the Bible. What to do and not to do. The Old Testament is full of examples for us.
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. - 1 Corinthians 10:6
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. - 1 Corinthians 10:11
Now, we, like David, can help others with our experiences.
(7) Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. (8) Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. (9) Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. (10) Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. (11) Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. (12) Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. (13) Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. - Psalms 51:7-13
