What Are We Striving For?

Today's blog was written by Brother Jesse Starnes.

In today’s world we get so caught up in the fast-paced road to success. There are more opportunities within reach than ever before. The status quo is to work hard, buy a home and have a large savings account so that we can enjoy the things this life has to offer. In that pursuit, we sometimes find ourselves feeling empty, alone, frustrated or even a failure. The internal struggle or fight begins to weigh heavily on our minds. Questions arise of “Can I do this?” “Will I ever reach my goals?” Ultimately, we look to place blame on others, ourselves, or even God for our struggles.

There is a way to be successful despite the affirmation of a bank account or material goods. The bible states in Deuteronomy 8:18 “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”

If we ask ourselves what is success? What is wealth? I am confident that the biblical principles can help anyone live more effectively. We can accomplish our highest goals with the help of God. To achieve your goals, consider the following:

Put God first. If we put him first God promises us, we can succeed. Psalms 84:11 ”For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

Stay Focused. Apostle Paul instructs us in Philippians 3:13-14 ”Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Surround yourself with believers. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.”

In short, the true answer to success is to follow God’s plan for your life. Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
